Do you still remember your own baon/snack or lunch when you were still in school? I do…I remember I always had cold corned beef with mayonnaise sandwich. Don’t get me wrong though, I like it except for the onions sticking out of the bread! Yucks! That is why, until now, I hate onions! That was my grade school years…during high school though, I remember we used chits in buying our food from the cafeteria/lunch room. We were never given any money, we use these laminated paper that is color-coded with a matching amount of money in buying.

How do you prepare your own office lunch or your husbands baon? What is inside his bento box? I have a secret to share…I don’t prepare my husband’s lunch…he does! You know why? He makes it so good that I have my own share for lunch here in the house in solitude:(…Do you want to know how he does it? Simple and inexpensive…just look at the photo below.

Almost everyday, it has become a ritual to us that I prepare dinner on week days[the kitchen is all his on weekends:) unless otherwise specified], after which, he does his own magic in the kitchen while I do the dishes. I normally make rice more than we can finish at night and even the main dish. Whatever it is, he mysteriously turns our left-over into something good, really good. Half of it for his own lunch tucked in this nifty Corningware baunan and the other half for my own to be consumed also for lunch the next day. It saves us both time, money and energy!

He simply makes this sinangag/fried rice with the left-over rice and whatever is left from the dish I cooked, add some sliced ham, bacon, hotdog, corn kernels, egg what-have-you! and sprinkle Knorr or Maggi seasoning or whatever spiCes you can think of and voila! Instant lunch to go or to stay!:) Truly delicioso!

What about your favorite lunch box? Mine was the tin can type with a Bambi character during my grade school years! hahaha! Omygosh! that was a long time ago. So 70’s! Nowadays, it’s all about Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers for my girl and Indiana Jones, Batman and Spongebob Squarepants for the little boy and for them it’s not about Adobo or Sinangag…it’s Macaroni and Cheese, Pizza, Chicken Nuggets, Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Cheeseburgers and French Fries.

For Lasang Pinoy, Sundays…our theme for this week is, BAON/TO GO. Lasang Pinoy has done this theme, sort of with Ajay’s Bento, but I thought it would be good to have another round especially for new members who weren’t able to play that time and since school opened this week here, it was all I can think of, really!:)

Please link back here and sprinkle some spiCe! Add to that, you might have theme ideas that you want us to do for the coming weeks, do let us know!

Here’s another icon for grabs!

REMINDER: PLEASE DON’T PUT YOUR ENTRY URL AS PART OF YOUR COMMENT BECAUSE IT GOES STRAIGHT TO EITHER THE MODERATION QUE OR MY SPAM FOLDER. I have commentluv to do that for you and I can easily just search for your entry just in case:)…thanks! [Jenn and Weng, that explains why your comment won’t show up:)]

One of my ultimate favorite TV show is Will and Grace, more than the fact that I can relate to Grace’s character as an Interior Designer, the whole plot just brings back so much memories. It’s fascinating to learn that MyLifetime is still showing reruns of the said show and even another favorite, Grey’s Anatomy as well as Desperate Housewives, Golden Girls and the newer show Army Wives. What I am really excited about is the premier of the bio-epic of fashion icon Coco Chanel starring Shirley MacLain.

Check out their website to see more TV schedules and try to register as well! I just did. More so, you can even enter in their on going Sweepstakes and I am so thrilled to enter one where I could win a Chanel bowling bag in sparking calfskin worth more than $5000 and the lower option of $2000 in cash! Beyond TV and Give-aways, there is a variety of other fun and informative ideas that is posted in their website including fashion tips, entertainment news, beauty and style, diet and nutrition, astrological readings even games, videos and so much more!

…it’s Food Friday and it’s also Laundry friday! aaarggghh!!! so let me make this short…
when hunger pangs strike you, go straight ahead to Beni Cafe..it’s a quaint Japanese fast food style restaurant and the interiors is so clean and refreshing yet funky and hip with red and white as the main color scheme…hip and funky, clean and fresh…just like this maki…i love how the Shrimp Tempura Roll was presented, that fireworks resemblance on the cucumber gives it that added ooommphhh, not to mention the added crunch of the tempura…

here’s a closer look…

but these cucumber and avocado roll on the other hand….as simple as it is presented, tops my list when i order an array of maki’s and sushi’s. i simply fell for the unexpected smooth and creamy impact of the cream cheese as opposed to the refreshing flavor of the cucumber and avocado…love, love, love it! but next time i’ll make my own!:)

The restaurant in itself is such a fresh change amongst the vetsin-induced food array of joints around plus the staffs are really courteous, well-mannered, soft-spoken, well-groomed and can speak the English language very well…now, i think this is headed to another review soon…a bad one of a not-to-recommend restaurant, at that!

This is for !

Are you tired of the same old California amusement parks around? Why don’t you explore on something different this time for some family fun activities? If you are in the west coast or if you’re planning a trip there, check out Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park. It is like a breath of fresh air as you compare all the other theme parks around or any amusement parks for that matter. Sure it has amazing rides just like the others, but this park is at par with other paramount parks because it has 40 one of a kind rides! They are cleverly designed with a mid-20th century historical and agricultural roots of Santa Clara Valley. Hmmm…agricultural you say? Yes, the park is amusingly eco-friendly with 6 majestic gardens and exhibits.

It is also home to the world famous Circus trees, which are truly an amazing sight to behold. Just like most California theme parks , there are a number of water fun activites such as the Treetop Sprayground and Splashing Branches to name a few. As a food blogger, I find this park interesting with most of the rides patterned and named after some veggie tale character. There’s the Apple & Worm, Artichoke Dip, Banana Split, Garlic Twirl, Mushroom Swing, Strawberry Sundae and so much more!

Spending a day in the park I imagine, wouldn’t just be pure enjoyment and fun but it sure is educational which is a big plus especially for moms like me. So if you are a family looking for a more natural way of fun and you want to experience something different, head on to Gilroy Gardens or check out their website here!
One of the ‘must-go-to-places’ that my family wanted to visit was of course, New York. Even if they’ve been there before, they wanted to go this time because we are complete…mainly for photography’s sake:)…and so we did!

We drove to Connecticut on a Friday night and arrived late since it was a 3 hour drive from Massachusetts. Then we drove to Astoria, Queens early the next morning, parked along 31st Street. It was such an amazing realization how different the streets of Queens and Quincy are from each other! I felt so cramped this time as we cruised along that very familiar street, it did not feel this way when we lived there.

From Astoria, we took the N train at Broadway Ave. going to Central Park…our very first stop and spent a few minutes there before we took off for 5th Avenue, stopped by Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral..etc. etc.

This is an entry for Weekend Snapshot! Have a great week ahead to all!

I know right? There are times when you just can’t help having a fit with a bad hair day. It’s like waking up and feeling you slept on the wrong side of the bed. Call me vain but I just hate it when my hair is not in its proper state of glory even if I am just spending the day at home. So, how do I keep it this way? I sleep through it, literally…and as my son would put it…seriously! I take a shower at night then get my hair fixed the way I want it styled and go straight to bed. The next day, it’s like I came out straight from the salon! No kidding! It’s part of my ultimate victory hair secret routine.

Do you want to know more? I also use VO5 hot oil treatment every so often, about every couple of weeks since my hair tends to be on the dry side and I have a really thick mane which could be a good thing if I keep it healthy. Proudly, I must confess…I do. As they say, it is after all, ones crowning glory. Does this give me a good chance in playing the Ultimate Flirting Championship sponsored by Extreme Style by VO5? I’d say I faired well when I tried the game myself. You can try it too by clicking on the widget below and see how you fair yourself…

Victory hair would mean feeling good about how you look and you get compliments one way or the other on a hair style. This for me is very important. I told you I’m vain.

I know I have posted this CAULIFLOWER with CHIVES and ROASTED ALMONDS SOUP photo before [probably in my old website] but for theme this week which is CREAMY, it just fits like a glove, as they say. Another dish that brings back a lot of childhood memories. May I add too that cauliflower is the only vegetable I eat when I was a kid, of course it’s a whole new story now…This is just a sampling though…I can just imagine what you might have to offer!

This hearty soup is fresh, simple yet sophisticated, spiCed up with chives and roasted almonds. Not that it is prepared in true gourmet fashion but it is layered with a myriad of flavors, has the proper medium thick and creamy texture as I simply used the right stock, and the exact right ingredients, seasonings and thickening agent, which is milk. What plays an important role here as well is the so called “trinity” or mirepoix which is in actuality is usually carrots, onions and celery. This layering of flavors and spiCes will surely make a big difference in the success of such a dish.Just a simple reminder…this is a weekly Food Meme for everyone with a Pinoy palate, there goes my reason for posting a not so Filipino dish:)…based on my very Filipino taste! So anyone and everyone can join! Let me take this opportunity to thank each and everyone who have submitted their entries during the past 3 weeks even if I was galibunting :)[gallivanting] with my family. If I missed visiting your post, do drop me a line and again, my apologies…

Also, I don’t think the MisterLinky box is working as it should and so as to save you from typing in 2 links in submitting your entry, I am not including that starting this week. Simply leave your comments for the round-up…thanks!
UPDATE: I am slowly bouncing back…to blogging and cleaning up the house, making sure everything is well and ready as school starts Wednesday. Awww, back to getting up early…

Now that my laptop has gone berserk and having it fixed would cost so much, it wouldn’t hurt to dream about winning one of the 30 HP Compaq Presario C770US laptops up for grabs from Charter Communications, right? The laptop is priced at $600 each, now that’s a great value and I think that is the best price around even if you decide to buy one with the following features:

Intel® Pentium Dual-Core Processor
15.4″ WXGA Screen
2GB RAM -160GB hard drive
DVD Burner
Built in Wi-Fi and Ethernet
Plus a NEOtec Laptop Backpack!

Now if you are not yet into purchasing, all you have to do is order any Charter Communications service online and you will be automatically entered in the Charter Laptop-a-Day Giveaway Sweepstakes and there is no need to purchase anything. The first winner will be announced on September 1, 2008 and all online orders received will also get a Shell gas card worth up to $100. I wish I can be that first winner since my website is suffering due to my virus infected laptop.
In order to be qualified, one would need to subscribe to one of the three Charter services online – Charter High-Speed Internet at $19.99/mo for 6 months, Charter Digital Home and High-Speed Internet at $69.98/mo for 6 months or the Charter Digital Home, High-Speed Internet, and Charter Telephone at $99.97/mo. for 12 months. Personally, I’d say that’s a great triple play value!
What are you waiting for, go ahead and check out the complete Sweepstakes Rules at their website! Race you there!
