It’s Sunday once again and time for LaPiS! The chosen theme is SOUP…plain, clear, with vegetable, with meat, with pasta or noodles, thin, thick, spicy, consomme, boullion, bisques, sweet, salty, hot, cold…however you want to call it, we simply want some COMFORT FOOD on our table. Yeah, yeah I know these 2 words has now become such a cliche’ but Sundays are never quite complete without something warm and comforting as a dish with soup. At least that is how I remember my Sundays growing up.
The photo above is my mom’s way of tweaking the Filipino’s SINIGANG [Pork in Sour Soup] when she couldn’t find the exact ingredients during one of her visits back in New York. Honestly, with the incorporation of baby bok choy and green beans, it looks to me now that it’s a cross between Sinigang and Nilaga, but the similarity ends there…it is undoubtedly Sinigang, her delicious and perfectly sour sinigang with just about the right amount of stock, not too much…just enough. I also learned from her that pork buto-buto [bones] is the least expensive way of making this dish yet the tastiest…and for me, the most fun, eating and getting all the meat there is to it using your bare hands!
On a slightly different note, did you know that our Ginataan is categorized as a dessert soup by Wikipedia? Interesting, huh? Back in those days, my Sunday is never complete without my mama’s Sinigang and Ginataan to cap the week and start a new one…
Come join in the fun again as we capture those warm moments be it your choice of comfort food or as part of your childhood memory…with SOUP! Won’t you share them with us because we want to know how you keep those tummies warm…or cold. As for me, simplicity is the key in making any food for the soul dish a success, something that warms up both one’s tummy and heart…it’s all there is to it.
Soup is a food that is made by combining ingredients such as meat and vegetables in stock or hot/boiling water, until the flavor is extracted, forming a broth.

You can just leave a comment below as I noticed our MisterLinky box is only good for the current post and expires the next time we use it…so it’s rather useless as I see it. Please visit the other participants too. Thanks and let the fun begin as we keep LASANG PINOY’s fire burning!

Ces, I so love sinigang na baboy. Your mom is right the version of the buto-buto is the most tasty but I also like the one with the pork chunks since the fat just melts in your mouth… ooooh!
Since Pork is a no-no in this part of the world, I have started to enjoy eating Sinigang na Isda. The ulo ng maya-maya is the best!
